  1. Product identification

Bitumen V 6000 – complies with the requirements of EN 12591.

  1. Transportation and unloading:

The products should be delivered in insulated road tankers, in a liquid state at an elevated temperature to ensure the required pumpability.

The temperature of the transported bitumen should be between 120 – 145 °C.

The optimum pumping temperature is between 120 – 145°C. The minimum pumping temperature is 90°C

General safety rules for the transport of bitumen V6000 according to ADR/RID regulations.

  1. Storage conditions

Road bitumen should be stored in insulated steel tanks with a heating system, closed, to protect the product from contamination and infiltration.

The maximum storage temperature should not exceed 145°C.

There are no known instances of storage instability where V6000 bitumen under the above storage conditions would lose the desired properties due to, for example, phase separation. However, storage time at process temperatures of 120-145 °C should be minimised to prevent hardening of the asphalt due to ageing. If storage under conditions not specified in this document is required, the manufacturer should be contacted to determine further handling of the product.

  1. Health and Environmental Safety Information

All information required by European Parliament and Council Regulation (REACH) No. EC 1907/2006 is included in the “Information on Ingredients of the Mixture for which a Safety Data Sheet is not required.

Bitumen V 6000 is a soft binder used for road surface construction on low-traffic roads, mainly in countries with very harsh winters (e.g. Scandinavian countries). For example, it is used in Norway in areas where the average annual temperature is below 6 degrees Celsius.

This bitumen is often used in technologies using recycled material: both for substructures (of gravel and bitumen mixes) and for the production of mineral and bitumen mixes using foamed bitumen.

Soft bitumen V 6000 can also be used for the construction and paving of dirt roads with very low traffic loads using mineral-bitumen mixtures of very soft bituminous concrete according to EN 13108-3. Such applications are common in Lithuania and Latvia.

Laboratory handling and industrial production.

During the production, laying and compaction, as well as laboratory testing of mineral and bitumen mixtures using road bitumen, it is recommended to use the process temperatures given in the table below.

Sample handling in the laboratory

Sample handling (warm-up time and temperature) is specified in EN 12594.

After heating the samples in the containers, they should be homogenized by mixing.

Repeated heating of samples should be avoided.
