  1. Product identificationBitumen V 1500 – conforming to the requirements of EN 12591. The products should be delivered in insulated road tankers, in a liquid state at an elevated temperature to ensure the required pumpability. The temperature of the transported asphalt should be between 100 and 135 °C.General safety rules for the transport of polymer modified bitumen according to ADR/RID regulations.
  2. Storage conditionsRoad bitumen should be stored in insulated steel tanks with a heating system, enclosed, to protect the product from contamination and infiltration. The maximum storage temperature should not be exceeded – see specifications tab. There are no known instances of storage instability where V1500 asphalt in the above storage conditions would lose the desired properties due to, e.g., phase separation, However, storage at process temperatures of 100-140 °C should be minimised to prevent hardening of the bitumen due to ageing. If storage under conditions not specified in this document is required, the manufacturer should be contacted to determine further handling of the product.
  3. Laboratory handling and industrial production.
During the production, laying and compaction as well as laboratory tests of mineral-bitumen mixtures with the use of road bitumen, it is recommended to use the technological temperatures given in the table below.

Bitumen types V1500, V3000, V6000 and V12000 are soft binders used for the construction of road surfaces on low-traffic roads, mainly in countries with very harsh winters (e.g. Scandinavian countries). For example, it is used in Norway in areas where the average annual temperature is below 6 degrees Celsius. Soft bitumen is often used in technologies using recycled material: both for substructures (of gravel and bitumen mixes) and for the production of mineral and bitumen mixes using foamed bitumen.

Soft bitumen V3000, V6000 and V12000 can also be used for the construction and paving of dirt roads with very low traffic loads with very soft mineral and bitumen concrete mixtures according to EN 13108-3, such applications are common in Lithuania and Latvia

Sample handling in the laboratory

Sample handling (warm-up time and temperature) is specified in EN 12594.

After heating the samples in the containers, they should be homogenized by mixing.

Repeated heating of samples should be avoided.
